Rocket Frog

In October 2013, we were watching a routine rocket launch in Virginia on www.space.com because there was a chance we could see the rocket pass over the NJ sky.  When the photographs of the launch were studied, a very conspicuous fat bullfrog was clearly visible in the center of the rocket exhaust. It had been blown upwards in the draft and caught on film.  The poor frog we thought! He was probably minding his own business and was several years old judging by his size and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Equally odd was that this became a worldwide news story and was covered on CNN, major networks and was all lover the internet. We decided to declare the frog a hero and give him the honorable mention he deserved by writing a song from his point of view. Of course in our version he doesn’t evaporate in the flaming rocket exhaust but goes on to reach the moon and becomes “A hero to amphibians”.  The sampling you hear is real NASA commentary, real rocket exhaust and real Neil Armstrong quotes.  God speed Rocket Frog….!

NASA Commentary – Space Shuttle Columbia, June 1981

Four, Three, Two, One…..

Control:  There seems to have been some interference, there was a frog on the launch pad…

Flight Deck:  What’s the protocol for this situation? There seems to be none…

Control: Ok, Let him go… God Speed Rocket Frog!!!

Verse 1

Nothing special for this frog,

Average joe around the pond,

but I knew deep down that I'd become,

A hero to amphibians…

one day living next to NASA

yet another launch occurs

and I look down at the Earth below,

Suddenly my chance to shine arrives!

Chorus:

Rumbling, Then I'm flying!

Higher! ever rising…

Into brilliant moonlight..

Froganaut!

from home into the cosmos,

A species soul desire

Jealous Toads will stare up high

at Rocket Frog!!

Verse 2

When I was a young tadpole

I would look up to the stars

and I

knew that one day I 'd blast off

be the first frog in the galaxy

Now I soar across the sky,

all the frogs wish they were me,

and i

don't know how I'll  make it home

dream of  the medals I'll receive

Bridge:

mission' complete now,

My name will live forever!

one small hop for me

huge leap for frogkind!!

(Neil Armstrong: “One small Step for Man, One giant leap for mankind.”)

Chorus:

rumbling Then I'm flying,

higher ever rising

Into  brilliant moonlight

Froganaut!!

from home into the cosmos

species soul desire

Jealous Toads will stare

up high among the moon and stars,

And you can see the Rocket Frog!

(Neil Armstrong: “Tranquility base here…the Eagle has landed”)
