Soup With Ghandi
The motif for this song stems from that famous party game “If I could have dinner with 5 historical figures I would choose…” and then the person talks about their choices. Ghandi seems to be a popular selection as a dinner guest, due to his impact and the promise of fascinating conversation. So as we reflected on what a meal with the Mohatma might be like we reached two epiphanies – First, it would be a great and humorous song if we made it a lunch and made him run late (he was known to be meticulously punctual). And second, it might be a very deflating conversation since most of what he stood for and his sacrifices really aren’t practiced in earnest around the world today. We would venture to suggest that if Ghandi had to look at the sad state of our world, he would probably tear up with dismay and the lunch would be a colossal downer. “He told me the sad truth, that he cant find any of the good will he produced…” is the sobering conclusion. But generous as the Mohatma is, lunch is on him….
Song Lyrics:
Verse 1:
I sat down
to hear ghandi's wisdom
Long waiting
Mohatma's late again!
Ten minutes
when he finally got there
He told me
no worries all zen
Chorus:
And I just had to ask him why
he would never put up a fight
and I just had to know the truth
what do you do with all the good will you produce…?
Verse two:
He looked humbled
ordered soup for both of us
said its simple,
What you think is what you become
So start praying
That voice is an inner drum
Theres no contest
you lead through cooperation
Chorus:
But I still had to ask him why
he had never put up a fight
and I still had to know the truth
was it all worth it for the good will you produced…?
Bridge:
day turned night
we laughed and drank i said
pass the salt
he looked at me
with a tear …in his eye and said
I once walked for
miles and miles Just to
To make my point
Do they….realize?
Chorus 3:
and then he started to say why
he had never put up a fight
and then he told me the truth
he can't find any of the good will he produced…
and then he paid the bill….
